تَجْلِسُ مَرْيَمُ فِي مَقْهًى قَرِيبٍ مِنْ عَمَلِهَا. تَقُولُ لِلنَّادِلِ: «أُرِيدُ قَهْوَةً بِالْحَلِيبِ، مِنْ فَضْلِكَ، وَلٰكِنْ بِدُونِ سُكَّرٍ». بَعْدَ دَقَائِقَ، يَضَعُ النَّادِلُ الْقَهْوَةَ أَمَامَهَا. تَشْرَبُ قَلِيلًا، ثُمَّ تَقُولُ: «عَفْوًا، هٰذِهِ الْقَهْوَةُ حُلْوَةٌ جِدًّا». يَنْظُرُ النَّادِلُ إِلَى الْفِنْجَانِ وَيَقُولُ: «آسِفٌ، هٰذِهِ قَهْوَةُ الرَّجُلِ فِي الطَّاوِلَةِ الْأُخْرَى». يَأْتِي بِقَهْوَةٍ جَدِيدَةٍ لِمَرْيَمَ وَبِقَهْوَةٍ أُخْرَى لِلرَّجُلِ. تَبْتَسِمُ مَرْيَمُ وَتَقُولُ: «شُكْرًا. الْآنَ أَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ أَبْدَأَ يَوْمِي!»
English translation
Maryam sits in a café near her workplace. She says to the waiter, ‘I’d like a coffee with milk, please, but without sugar.’ A few minutes later, the waiter puts the coffee in front of her. She drinks a little, then says, ‘Excuse me, this coffee is very sweet.’ The waiter looks at the cup and says, ‘Sorry, this is the coffee for the man at the other table.’ He brings Maryam a fresh coffee and another coffee for the man. Maryam smiles and says, ‘Thank you. Now I can start my day!’
